If troubles come in threes - an oft-mentioned number of unrelated events occurring in a short period of time and being coincidental in nature - then the animal kingdom has a geometic progression of squared, cubed and more. More sicko animal news and I wish it would stop.
Gaylord the Ostrich, pictured.
News of an Ostrich being killed. This time the killers got caught and will be doing time.
Ron Artest, pro basketball player for the NBA Sacramento Kings, had a Great Dane removed from his home by Placer County Animal Services after neighbors complained the dog was being starved. You might remember Ron as the central figure in a notorious brawl during a basketball game between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons in Michigan on 11/19/04 and Ron being suspended for 86 games (an NBA season is only 81 games). Nice guy.
This last one is making me ill. Brothers convicted for cooking a puppy alive in an oven. Read it and weep.

Sicko Animal News
Ordinarily I post news and information that is often light-hearted, newsy, funny, or deals with something going on in our lives. Sometimes something comes up that isn't any of these and I want to bring it to your attention. Both of these stories come from the San Francisco Chronicle.
First up is a man who starved his dogs to death. According to the story, 6 pekingese dogs were locked in cages in a house, had food witheld, and then died. My take on the story is the man is mentally disturbed but these dogs would have been easy to give away for adoption, especially in a place like San Francisco where spaces for large dogs are at a premium. Emphasize the word oily for his lawyer.
The second story is equally appalling. Two employees of PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - were acquitted of charges stemming from the deaths of cats and dogs. Their modus operandi was to adopt animals from shelters, euthanize them, and dump the bodies in garbage bins. All in the name of relieving the animals' suffering. I didn't know they were renaming it to sick bastards PETA - People who are Extremely Twisted And_delusional.
